The GME Director Knowledge Management and Scholarly Communications must be a dynamic, collegial, flexible, experienced, and research-oriented librarian to further the promotion and outreach efforts related to scholarly communication and Education Initiatives. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in scholarly communications landscape including digital publishing and preservation, open access platforms, open educational resources, data management, copyright, and related intellectual property issues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary as the librarian will be expected to play an active role in expanding and promoting the library’s scholarly communications and education initiatives. The GME Director Knowledge Management and Scholarly Communications will assist physicians, residents, fellows and students in finding health and scientific information to improve, update, assess or evaluate proposed scholarly activity. Provide expert mediated searching to provide synthesized answers. Additional duties included assisting in creating, editing and the publication process for appropriate scholarly activities.

**SUPERVISES: **Medical Editor & Digital Content Specialists, Journal Editor, Publication Coordinators, Medical Librarians, and Medical Writers

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  1. Design and ensure implementation of knowledge and scholarly resources services to support academic excellence and scholarly products of HCA Healthcare’s GME programs
  2. Lead and set direction for scholarly communications services and personnel by setting program goals, policies, best practices and assessments metrics for program success and sustainability.
  3. Establish and oversee the successful publication of a bi-monthly peer reviewed and indexed medical journal
  4. Disseminate and promote the utilization of HCA Healthcare GME scholarly works through various tools and media outlets
  5. Manage the HCA Healthcare publication review process to ensure appropriate release of intellectual property and mitigate risk

  7. Work with information leaders in specifying and negotiating requirements for knowledge resources, digital repositories, digital archives, and systems supporting the of academic and scholarly products
  8. Oversee, mentor, and train members of the knowledge resources team
  9. Serve as content expert in the most efficient way to locate medical literature by conducting research through databases and reference sources
  10. Guide and teach program director, faculty, residents, faculty and medical students in the utilization of relevant information technologies, information management tools and searching techniques
  11. Provides guidance and training to program leadership, faculty, residents, and students to assure that all resource procurement processes are managed and coordinated properly
  12. Develop and maintain knowledge of scholarly activity pathways in GME and the health care environment
  13. Develop and manage a GME enterprise wide institutional knowledge repository; ensure successful utilization of knowledge assets
  14. Source and competitively price evidence based curriculum and resources
  15. Contribute to the development of training, tools, and process documentation for both the department and for related projects
  16. Provide proactive dissemination of scholarly activity opportunities to help program increase publication, presentation and poster acceptance

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating programs and services across multiple specialties
  • Demonstrated understanding of research processes and experience in the use and implementation of methods for measuring impact
  • Experience in health services research environment.
  • Previous team management experiences required
  • A minimum of ten (10) years medical library and /or clinical experience.
  • A thorough knowledge of the concepts of information organization, storage, retrieval, and transfer, including application of computer and other technologies to information management.
  • Knowledge of current resources, tools, vocabulary and research techniques in the health, biomedical and/or life sciences.
  • A strong knowledge with Evidence-Based Health Care.

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution.
