Digital Scholarship Support Coordinator - Job Description

Dept Number/Name: 0-4001-000/University Controller's Office

Salary Plan: Temporary Salaried OPS Position

Job Code: 0013/Other Professional/Support Services

Salary: $40,000 - $45,000

Organizational Summary:

The USF Libraries, with locations in Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota, are transforming libraries and the way they interact with patrons by reinventing our service to research faculty and students, becoming a model for other libraries. Our daily work brings us into contact with globally recognized faculty and researchers, and many of our collections are online and available worldwide. Being a part of the USF Libraries means being a part of a vibrant, creative and forward-thinking organization.

The Collections and Discovery Department acquires, organizes, and manages library collections in all formats for the USF Libraries. The department's librarians and staff work collaboratively to ensure efficient access to quality information sources that meet the research and learning needs of the institution's faculty and students. Functional units include acquisitions, collections management, metadata/cataloging, electronic resources, and digital scholarship.

Position Summary:

This position will assist with ongoing projects within the scholarly communications & digital scholarship division of C&D, particularly content for the Searchable Ornithological Research Archive, Karst Information Portal, and PURE researcher profiles. This position would work closely with others in the unit to assist in the management of Digital Commons and may also work with USF and external partners such as faculty members or journal editors. In consideration of the current and expanded workload and the potential need to support the upcoming new open-access plan for the USF Libraries, additional help will be needed to increase the capacity of the scholarly communications team. This role will better position us to further the open access policy initiative for USF and manage the growing demand for green OA content in the repository by relieving the workload from key personnel in the OA initiative.

Job Duties:

Collaborate with the unit to manage the Searchable Ornithological Research Archive in Digital Commons to ensure standardization of content and optimal discoverability of materials.

Communicate and assist journal editors as necessary. This involves uploading documents to the Institutional Repository (IR) Digital Commons, registering DOIs, performing quality control on existing and incoming content, and other tasks.

Assist with the gathering and standardization of data for the KARST Information Portal, including copyright clearance and assisting with quality control and upload of incoming content.

Assist in the creation and maintenance of PURE researcher profiles, including clearing permissions for upload of content on faculty CVs and working with faculty to obtain appropriate versions of content for posting in Digital Commons.

Assist with projects pertaining to the institutional repository and participate in the development of related policies and procedures in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field and two years of relevant experience. Directly relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with metadata and familiarity with digital repositories. Microsoft Excel proficiency. Project management and strong organizational skills.
