The Oak Park Public Library seeks a part-time Creative Technology Specialist to join the Adult Services’ Creative Technology team.

**Position Summary **

Under the direction of the Supervising Librarian of Creative Technology, the person selected for this position will advance the library’s vision, mission, and strategic direction by: 

  • Executing day-to-day experiences related to creative technology and digital learning activities. 
  • Assisting patrons and engaging with the community
  • Collaborating with staff

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities **

Creative Technology

  • Collaborates with the Creative Technology Team to provide access to the Creative Studio, develops creative technology instructions/learning opportunities, and supports other related activities.
  • Serves as a member of the Digital Learning Team
  • Provides one-on-one learning lab appointments for patrons for Creative Studio and other Digital Learning topics
  • Assists with Open Hours in Studio A of the Creative Studio
  • Provides direct patron assistance at various Creative Studio stations
  • Assists with 3D print requests
  • Monitors the quality of the library’s creative technology equipment and space
  • Develops organizational and technical skills as needed

Customer Service

  • Provides reference and technology services in Creative Studio spaces
  • Assists customers, resolves issues, and directs inquiries as appropriate with the highest level of customer service
  • Adheres to library policies and proactively enforces the Library for Everyone policy
  • Oversees meeting room reservations of service area

Community Engagement and Programming

  • Prepares and presents programs
  • Participates in community engagement activities
  • Assists patrons with digital learning via one-on-one tutorials and classes

** Evaluation/Assessment**

  • Participates in evaluation and assessment practices
  • Creates and submits reports as required
  • Uses evidence-based decision making for programs, services, and collections

Education and Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

  • Experience working in a library, makerspace, retail, or hospitality setting
  • Experience providing technology assistance
  • Completion of some college courses or a Bachelor’s Degree

  • High level of professionalism and integrity with the capacity to maintain confidentiality.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability with and knowledge of a wide range of technology, both physical and web-based, including but not limited to Windows PCs, Macs, mobile devices, social media, and common desktop applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and independent thinking.

Details

This part-time position reports to the Supervising Librarian of Creative Technology. The position will be scheduled for five shifts a week, totaling 20 hours per week, with expectations of a regular weekly shift of 5 hours on Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm and one regular weekly evening shift.

As part of the greater compensation package, part-time (20-hour) library staff members receive generous benefits, including:

  • Pension Plan: Enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a premier defined benefit (pension) plan for Illinois municipal government employees

The starting hourly rate range is $22.00 to $24.00. Offers are made within this range based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.
