Description

The Indiana University Kokomo Library invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Information Literacy and Research Services. This 12-month tenure-track role seeks a collaborative and innovative librarian to provide strategic leadership in both information literacy and research services. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting, coordinating, and assessing the library’s information literacy program, as well as providing reference and research support to the IU Kokomo community. Additionally, this position will serve as a subject liaison, supporting teaching, learning, and research in designated areas.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordination and Leadership for Information Literacy Program:

    • Collaborate with faculty and liaison librarians to integrate information literacy into the curriculum.
    • Coordinate information literacy instruction for first-year writing courses and other foundational general education courses.
    • Develop policies and procedures for instruction services.
    • Teach information literacy sessions for classes and visiting groups.
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of instruction materials in all formats.
    • Promote the information literacy program to Indiana University Kokomo faculty and administrators.
    • Assess the effectiveness of classroom teaching and the information literacy program.

  • Coordination and Leadership for Reference and Research Services:

    • Develop and implement policies and procedures for reference and research services.
    • Advocate for faculty research through displays and events.
    • Promote IUScholarWorks to faculty and students to increase the number of works deposited.
    • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate outreach and promotion activities for reference and research services.
    • Train library faculty, staff, and student assistants in reference duties.
    • Provide reference and research services in person, by phone, chat, and email.
    • Maintain and report statistics related to reference and research services.
    • Schedule Research Help Desk coverage and monitor and report on hardware and software issues.
    • Manage the development of the reference collection.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • MLS/MIS/MLIS or equivalent advanced degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or international equivalent).
  • Understanding of current trends and best practices in academic libraries and higher education.
  • Ability to meet the responsibilities and requirements of a tenure-track appointment.
  • Experience in providing reference and research assistance.
  • Experience with information literacy instruction or teaching in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of or experience with the assessment of library instruction and services.
  • Familiarity with developing instructional materials.
  • Knowledge of or experience with educational technologies and tools that support online learning, such as course management systems (e.g., Canvas), screen recording software, and video editing tools.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and instruction skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently within a team environment.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in library services and programming.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-MLS experience in an academic library setting.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience in a library setting.
  • Experience with or coursework in information literacy pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated experience building collaborative relationships with colleagues, library users, and/or community partners.
  • Background in a specific subject area relevant to the institution’s academic programs, such as humanities, social sciences, nursing, allied health, or sciences.
  • Proficiency with Springshare products (LibGuides, LibCal, LibInsight, etc.)
