The College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) Librarian supports the information literacy and collection development needs of programs in the CHS, which includes the Hallmarks Program for General Education. The CHS Librarian will design and maintain accessible information literacy learning materials, and will teach and assess information literacy instruction in liaison areas to support student success. The CHS Librarian will develop the library’s collections and will provide research assistance and reference services to support learning and research at the University.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Participates in the library’s liaison program by liaising with the College of Humanities and Sciences, which includes the Hallmarks Program for General Education.
  • Teaches inclusive information literacy instruction synchronously and asynchronously, in-person and online, in assigned liaison areas.
  • Assesses information literacy instruction in assigned liaison areas.
  • Develops programming and workshops in collaboration with library staff and campus partners to increase awareness of library resources and services. 
  • Builds relationships, sustains outreach, and collaborates with campus partners, including faculty and adjunct instructors. Participates in the Gutman Library’s outreach events on the East Falls Campus, including but not limited to New Student Orientations, Rams Resource Fairs, and Unity Week.

Provides reference services within and outside liaison area. 

Provides research consultations within liaison area.

Designs and maintains learning materials and tools, including but not limited to the Springshare suite of products; collaborates with Scott Memorial Library librarians to streamline and maintain learning materials.

Develops library collections to support curriculum in assigned liaison areas.

Assists with weeding projects within the library’s collections.

Promotes and encourages Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the workplace and throughout the University Community.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited school required.

AND

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of academic library experience as a teaching, subject specialist, or liaison librarian, preferably with knowledge of general education programs of study.
  • Two (2) years of experience with library instruction and assessment.
  • Demonstrated evidence of experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Library reference and consultation experience.
