Position Details

The Macdonald-Kelce Library at The University of Tampa has an opening for a Circulation Night Supervisor. Reporting to the Circulation Manager, the successful candidate will assist in the daily functions of the library including front desk responsibilities, supervision of staff members and student employees, and creating the best possible customer experience for our patrons. This position acts as the primary contact for the library during evening hours, addressing patron issues, and building maintenance concerns.

Responsibilities

  1. The supervisor will participate in the staffing of the Circulation Desk. Oversee circulation-related transactions, including charging, discharging, renewing library materials and reserves, creating, and editing user records.
  2. Answer questions from students, staff, and faculty about library policies and procedures.
  3. Assists routine problems encountered by patrons in their use of library equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, and scanners.
  4. Works collaboratively with other night staff members and communicates effectively with daytime staff, as necessary.
  5. Serves as supervisor on site during evening hours, making autonomous decisions regarding building operations, resolving patron concerns and assist in the scheduling, training, and supervision of student assistants.
  6. Prepares regularly scheduled and as needed statistical reports and performs other administrative functions.
  7. Actively surveys the building and patrons, observing safety issues, maintenance, and security.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
  9. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Education/Qualifications:

Work Schedule

Work hours for the position will vary throughout the year but typically will be 4:00 p.m. to 12 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Summer schedule will be 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.
  2. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills and the ability to manage time well.
  3. Significant and relevant experience providing customer service or delivering instruction.
  4. Ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks and demands in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  5. Excellent judgment: the ability to manage confidential information with sensitivity and maintain discretion.
  6. Be solution oriented with strong critical thinking skills and mindful of details.
  7. Ability to work late evening and weekend hours, occasionally work schedule during changes in library hours and during staff shortages and absences.
  8. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
  9. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  1.  Previous directing or supervisory experience
  2. Knowledge of library practices and procedures
  3. Knowledge of library systems, such as Alma, and software, including circulation functions
  4. Experience or knowledge of Interlibrary Loan programs, such as Worldshare and Ex Libris/Resource Sharing
  5. Experience in an academic library.
