The University of West Florida Libraries seeks an Assistant Faculty Librarian (position #105900) to manage the Reference Services Department. Responsibilities of this position include supervision and management of the sub-units within the department: Instruction & Information Literacy, Interlibrary Loan, Collection Development, Scholarly Communication, Data Analysis, Outreach, and the Education Research Library. Regular work schedule is Monday through Friday. Position reports to the Dean of Libraries. This is a full time twelve-month non-tenure earning position with faculty rank and status.

As the Department Head, responsibilities include:

·       Supervision and management of the 6 library faculty and 4 staff members of the department; management of daily operations of the Reference Department

·       Oversight responsibility for development and completion of Reference Department annual objectives

·       Supervision and management of the Education Research Library and the Program Manager and student assistants assigned to that location

·       Submitting annual and other reports as requested

·       Keeping library administration and other librarians informed of developments that may affect areas of responsibility

·       Maintaining library webpages related to assigned areas of responsibility

·       Completing other duties as assigned

This position also has general reference duties and an assigned subject area. Duties include:

·       Serves as the subject specialist and liaison to the School of Education

·       Providing group and individual instruction and/or information literacy instruction and activities

·       Providing individual research consultations

·       Providing reference and research assistance to library patrons through multiple modes of delivery, including scheduled shifts at the Information Desk

·       Creating and maintaining library user aids, tutorials, and research guides within assigned disciplines, as well as selected general areas

·       Selection, acquisition, management, weeding, and development of library materials, in all formats, for assigned subject areas

The successful candidate must manage with integrity and high degree of emotional intelligence; thrive in a collaborative environment; increase the effectiveness and visibility of research services; support the professional growth and research/creative works of library faculty; have an excellent customer service philosophy, communication skills (written and oral), and organizational skills. The candidate will work closely and collaboratively with the other library departments and department heads to ensure continuity and consistency of services at each service point and branch location, while also encouraging increased collaboration among departments, effective project management, and greater collegiality.

Required:

·       Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution in library science

·       3-5 years supervising library faculty and staff

·       Comprehensive knowledge and experience in research services

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·       Appropriate professional, academic library experience consistent with university guidelines

Preferred:

·       Experience in an academic library

·       Experience using Alma and PrimoVE

Program Overview/Environment:

The Reference Services Department consists of the Head of the Department and six librarians who are responsible for providing reference service, teaching library instruction sessions, collecting materials for the monographic collection, and selecting serials and databases. Each subject librarian has a coordinating function (e.g., interlibrary loans, information literacy, scholarly communication, and reference collection development) and assigned disciplines. This position will manage the librarians and staff within the department as well as daily operations. This position will also manage the staff and daily operations of the Education Research Library.

The University of West Florida Libraries have 12 library faculty and 24 support staff in three facilities – the John C. Pace and Education Research Library on the Pensacola main campus and a branch library on the Emerald Coast Campus in Fort Walton Beach. UWF is one of twelve State Universities in Florida. Position:

This is a full time twelve-month non-tenure earning position with faculty rank and status on the Pensacola campus. Salary range for the posting is $65,000. Position reports to the Dean of Libraries.
