Job Duties of the Adult Services Administrator:

The Adult Services Administrator is responsible for adult services, as well as various administrative and managerial tasks. Adult Services Administrator reports directly to the Director. Will act as the Director in the Director’s absence.

General Duties:

  • Planning and providing a year-round schedule of programs and services adults
  • Devising Collection Development Plans based on community interests and needs
  • Supervising and evaluating Adult Services Department Staff
  • Providing administrative and professional assistance to the Director
  • Assisting in planning, implementing, and evaluating library services
  • Assisting with formulation and administration of library goals, policies, and procedures

Ongoing Tasks:

  • Acquiring educational, informational, and recreational library materials in a variety of formats
  • Providing excellent customer service and reference assistance
  • Assigning duties and daily tasks to department staff
  • Scheduling and execution of library programs for adults
  • Collecting data and preparing department statistical reports
  • Coordinating publicity and social media for the activities of the department
  • Ordering, processing, and recording Interlibrary Loan requests, including out-of-system OCLC requests
  • Maintaining and updating OCLC files
  • Supporting and effectively enforcing established library policy in a consistent, timely, and professional manner
  • Attending appropriate workshops, webinars, and meetings as assigned
  • Assuming full responsibility for the department, its equipment and furnishings, and for the library when assigned
  • Keeping abreast of new developments in service models and technology in the areas of Reference and Adult Services
  • Creates and updates marketing materials for the library website
  • Representing the library at professional meetings, as assigned
  • Providing technical support to public and staff
  • Assisting with staff training
  • Preparing work schedules
  • Coordinating work between Departments
  • Reviewing payroll
  • Assisting in program coordination
  • Providing Reference support as needed
  • Providing Circulation support as needed
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field of library science
  • Assumes some duties of the Library Director in the Director’s absence
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science  
  • 2 years in a library supervisory role preferred.
  • Experience providing Adult services in a library setting and managerial duties 
  • Project management experience; proven ability to set clear objectives, measure and monitor process, progress and results.
  • Ability to plan, analyze and oversee the implementation of a departmental budget.
  • Strong knowledge of current trends in library services to adults.
  • In-depth knowledge of library selection tools and collection development resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to adapt communication style to a diverse audience.
  • Commitment to providing quality patron services.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems with staff and patrons in a positive and professional manner.
  • Understanding of current library technologies.
  • Ability to read computer screens, type accurately, lift 30lbs. and move about staff and public areas.
  • Ability to adjust work schedule to meet various demands of meetings, staffing and facility management including the flexibility to be able to work days, 1 evening shift, and 1 weekend shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish desirable but not required.
