Job Summary:

The UW-Madison Libraries are hiring 4 temporary positions to staff our front-line positions at Memorial, College and the Science & Engineering Libraries. These positions will last approximately 6 months as we develop and implement a new services model within the Libraries.

These positions will act as the shift supervisor, direct the work of student staff, assist patrons, oversea the security and general functioning of the libraries, and manage operations at Memorial Library, Steenbock Library, or College Library during their shifts.

2 positions will focus on daytime shifts, during regular business hours. There will be one weekend daytime shift each week.

2 positions will be 2nd shift positions. The focus of the hours will be after 3pm and will include weekend hours.

Performs a wide range of complex library services which support the day-to-day operations to provide access to information resources in a variety of formats. Hires, trains, and guides student employees.

  • 25% Provides complex support to the day-to-day operations of library services to provide guidance in the use of library information resources, operations, and policies; or to acquire, prepare, and preserve library information resources for use
  • 10% May assist and educate both face-to-face and remote customers in the use of technologies and tools to create, seek, use, and manage information
  • 10% Interprets policies and procedures to answer non-routine questions and resolve complex issues
  • 5% Utilizes designated library systems, tools, standards, and practices to locate, retrieve, and organize; or describe, edit, preserve, and reformat a variety of library information resources
  • 5% Conducts reference searches to locate relevant materials and answer questions as needed
  • 5% Utilizes library software and systems to retrieve, enter, and report on data using a wide variety of applications
  • 10% Provides complex library services support in absence of a supervisory authority. Acts as a resource to other library staff
  • 10% Hires, trains, and guides student employees and monitors student workflows
  • 5% Contributes to the development of policies and procedures
  • 5% Participates in committee work within the library and the university
  • 10% Ensures a safe and secure environment for the Library's patrons, staff, collections and contents.Tasks:
  • Process fines, fees, and registration hold reports.
  • Assist with processing library reports while also maintaining consistent access services work.
  • Provide backup support for shift changes throughout the libraries.
  • Manage student staff, assist patrons, troubleshoot circulation issues, and respond to staffing situations in multiple physical locations.
  • Direct and perform high need collections management projects to provide access to library resources.
  • Oversee the security and general functioning of the library, responding to security and emergency situations and managing circulation services, and exercising good judgement in the application of policies and procedures.Institutional Statement on Diversity:
